Vaibhav Vishal, a resident of Mumbai, encountered a possible Nigerian Facebook scam on Twitter and humorously trolled the scammer.

In his rather long Twitter DM conversation with scammer ‘Clara Julliard Scott,’ everything from love, marriage and family members to ancestral property, payments and hotel bookings were discussed. Photos of siblings and weddings were shared as well. And supporting characters included “a Hindu mosque,” a PayPal account, a lake full of alligators and a marijuana plantation, among other things.

Vishal later posted the conversation on his blog. It was widely retweeted.

These scams follow a typical pattern. There’s usually a stranger with no mutual internet friends or followers sending the target a DM. Her display picture is almost always glamorous. Her feed is largely inactive. And she is suddenly very “interested” in you and eventually, will ask you to transfer varying amounts of money into her account.

To Vishal’s credit, he didn’t fall for it. In fact, he turned the trap on its head and, by the end of the banter, was the one seeking a few dollars.

In the end, the original scammer had to block the intended scam victim in order to live happily ever after.
